What shapes a double glazed window unit

Sealed glass space
The gap between the panes carries most of the insulation effect. Spacers hold the panes apart and seal the gas space, and they are typically filled with desiccant to remove trapped moisture during manufacturing.
Gas fill options
The space can be filled with air, but argon is often used because it gives far superior insulation, and other gases or a vacuum are sometimes employed. Argon is commonly chosen as the most affordable option.
Glass combinations
Most units use equal glass thickness on both panes. Acoustic attenuation or security requirements may call for different thicknesses, and laminated or tempered glass can be used as part of the construction.
Frame and hardware
